How Common is Vaginismus?

Vaginismus is a common condition that affects around 1% to 6% of women, but it can be hard to identify. There are conflicting figures on how many women are suffering from Vaginismus. Trying to get accurate numbers of how many women suffer from Vaginismus as you would imagine is very difficult, due to a lot of women that would go undiagnosed.

As of 2022 the women population here on Earth is estimated to be 3,904,727,342 There are some percentages from 15% of the women population to 1%, that suffer from Vaginismus. So below are rough figures of just how many women are suffering from Vaginismus if the percentages are correct. If there were 15% of the women population, then there would be 585,709,101 women
suffering from Vaginismus.

Even if there were only 1% of the women population suffering from Vaginismus there would be 39,047,273 suffering from Vaginismus.

There are many factors that can contribute to vaginismus, such as past sexual trauma, fear of pain or discomfort during sex, negative messages about sex from childhood or adolescence, and chronic pelvic pain. The first step in treating vaginismus is identifying the underlying cause of the condition and then treating it accordingly.

Some Other Rough Statistics Are:

  • 9% of vaginismus sufferers are 51 years or older
  • 18% of vaginismus complaints come from women under 25 years old.
  • 26% of women with vaginismus are between 36 to 50 years old.
  • 47% of vaginismus sufferers are either single or dating
  • 53% are between 26 and 35 years of age
  • 53% of women with vaginismus are married

As you can see there are millions of women that are just like you. The thing you will find is that Vaginismus is a topic that is rarely spoken about. It’s a topic that makes womeN understandably shy, and embarrassed, and avoid the topic of sex altogether.
